Jimmie Welch Edwards Sr, age 80, a resident of Stillmore, Georgia passed away on January 21, 2024. He was born on August 25, 1943, to Hayes P. Edwards and Rosie Lee Welch Edwards. Jim’s life was a testament to hard work and hard play. Jim had a strong commitment to family in his role as a husband to Nancy. Jim and Nancy grew up together and later married and continued to grow as evidenced through their love for each other, as well as their love for their family.
Jim was a veteran of foreign war, he served from 1960 – 1968 with the Air Force including the Vietnam War. Many knew him as a farrier and blacksmith, however, ultimately, he settled into farming and working on old farm equipment. If he was not working on some old tractor or planting a garden, he was thinking about his next exploration of a fishing hole. He loved making a deal and negotiating regardless of if the deal benefited either in the negotiations.
Jim is survived by Nancy Gail Bryant Edwards, wife of 62 years, brother, Hayes Edwards of Florida, children; Jimmie W. Edwards, Jr (Charlene) of Clarksville, TN and Christine E. Paige of Bloomingdale, GA, grandchildren; Rachel Gail Duncan (Todd), Rebecca Anne Edwards, Jamie Charlene Smock (Jason), Jessica Lee Myatt (Austin) of Clarksville, TN and Katherine Nicole Paige, and, Jack “Zeek” David Paige of Bloomingdale, Georgia, as well as 10 greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers include Jack “Zeek” Page, Austin Myatt, Jason Smock, Bob Reed, Kenny Marshall, Roy Pace, and Jeremy Sutton
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 2:00 P.M., at Wood Funeral Home in Metter, GA with visitation from 1:00 until the hour of the service with interment at The Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
