Lucy Brown's life was a testament to her faith, resilience, and dedication to her community. Born on November 13, 1945, in Twin City, Georgia, to the late Dave Brown and Fannie Mae McCrary, she embarked on a journey that touched the lives of many. On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Lucy's earthly journey came to an end, as she was called home to eternal rest.
She laid the foundation for her life's journey through education, attending CCTS/Lillian Street Elementary and High Schools in Metter, and furthering her studies at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia. Lucy's unwavering faith in Christ began at a young age, shaping her path and guiding her through life's challenges.
In 1964, Lucy relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she found employment as a Switchboard Operator at Christ Hospital. It was during this time that she fostered connections within the James Temple Church of God in Christ, led by the late Bishop William James. Lucy dedicated herself wholeheartedly to various ministries within the church, embodying the spirit of service and devotion.
Returning to Savannah, Georgia, Lucy continued to serve her community, working for organizations such as the Red Cross. Eventually, she returned to her hometown of Metter, Georgia, to care for her mother. Here, she pursued her dreams with determination, establishing Clean by Lucy, Inc., a successful commercial janitorial business. Lucy's entrepreneurial spirit led her to explore new ventures, culminating in the publication of her first book, "Miss Lucy Brown’s Recipe for Living a Good Life."
Lucy's impact extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was a pillar of support within her community, actively involved in ministries at New Life Baptist Church on Hwy 121 in Metter and Life Applications Ministry in Twin City, Georgia.
Lucy was preceded in death by her brothers Joe Frank Brown (Winder), Frank (Sonny) Brown, and Joshua Parrish of Metter, GA. She is survived by her cherished loved ones: James (Lillie) Parrish of Lawrenceville; Mattie (Curtis) Collins of Metter; Nathaniel (Margaret) of Metter; Hosea (Chandra) McCrary of Morrow; Lee “Mack” (Tanisha) McCrary of Austin, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and a multitude of friends.
