Barbara Joyce Lanier Mercer, age 68 of Metter, reunited with her parents in her eternal home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born to the late John William and Mary Elizabeth Williams Lanier on January 17, 1950.

Barbara was a native of Metter, GA. After graduating from Metter High School in 1967, she relocated to Vidalia to start a career and family. She worked for many years at Darby Supply Company and later for White and Son Heating and Air. After retirement, she moved back to Metter to take care of her ailing parents.

Family and friends were Barbara's passion. In her younger years, Barbara and her daughter clogged with the State Prison Cloggers. When she was promoted to Granny, her life forever changed.

Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church Twin City and an active member of the Joyful Gleaners Sunday School Class.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mercer-Millsaps and son in love, Jimmy Millsaps of Metter; three grandchildren, Jordan Whorley & Elizabeth "Lizzie" Millsaps of Metter and Mitchell Whorley of Gainesville; one sister, Janice Lanier Wells of Metter. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Twin City with Pastor Max Rodgers and Elder Sam Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Twin City on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
