Obituary

Bruce White, Jr. (85) went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2026, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born September 19, 1940, in Savannah, GA. He was a 1959 graduate of Groves High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with friends, many of whom remained close for the rest of their lives. This was also the place where he met his sweetheart.

After graduation he served in the 165th Air National Guard for 6 years. He worked with his father at White Auto Parts in Port Wentworth, GA until his move to Metter in 1982. Upon his move, he relocated the business and began specializing in starter and alternator repairs.

He came to know the Lord as a young man at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Garden City, GA, where he enjoyed coaching boys’ basketball, driving the church bus, and serving as a deacon. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Collins. His love of the Lord was evident in his kindness and respect for others, his generous spirit, and his heart for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce White, Sr., of Millen, and Mildred Lucille White of Metter, and two sisters, Barbara Smith of Savannah and Judy Freyermuth of Stilson.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Owens White, and their children: Tracey (Dennis) Bazemore of Stilson, Lisa (Jimmy) DeBorde of Colonel’s Island, and Michelle (David) Lamm of Metter. He loved every minute of being a Granddaddy to Kara, Adam, and Mackenzie Bazemore, Benjamin (Michelle) DeBorde, Caitlin Lamm, Kirsten (John) Wilson, and Carolina (Caleb) Thompson. That joy was multiplied when he became Grandpa to Rachel, John David, Cason, and Sterling Wilson, and Margot DeBorde. He is also survived by one sister, Faye White, of Millen, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be provided by Wood Funeral Home of Metter with the visitation held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the family cemetery on White Way Circle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International or the Alzheimer’s Association.
