Obituary

Constance H. Franklin March 29, 1948 – November 1, 2026

Constance ‘Connie’ H. Franklin, 78, passed away on November 1, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be remembered for her warmth, her ready sense of humor, and the deep love she shared with her family and community.

Born at home in Candler County, Georgia, on March 29, 1948, she was delivered by her grandmother. She was the daughter of Blanche S. Hendrix and Eldridge Gerald Hendrix. After graduating with the Class of ’66, she continued her education at Savannah Technical School. She worked for several banks before beginning a career in the Career Services Department at Georgia Southern University, where she worked until her retirement. She loved serving and helping students, offering encouragement and keeping them on their toes with her quick wit and sense of humor.

On February 5, 1977, Constance married Benjamin Robert Franklin III at Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Candler County, with Pastor Thomas Deal officiating. Together, they shared nearly 50 years of marriage and built a family she cherished.

Constance always had a joke or story to share, and treasured time spent with those she loved. Her beloved “’66 girls” weekends were a source of laughter and lasting friendship, keeping the bonds of her graduating class strong throughout her life.

She also gave generously of her time to her community, first volunteering in local schools while her children were growing up and later becoming actively involved with the Candler County Historical Society and Excelsior Baptist Church.

Constance is survived by her husband, Benjamin Robert Franklin III; sisters, Glenda Kay Moyer and Patricia Smith; her daughter, Jennifer T. Conner (Robert); her sons, Jason R. Franklin (Jessica) and Justin D. Franklin (Anna); and her cherished grandchildren, Kyle H. Martin (Kelsey), Phillip Thomas Conner, Christian F. Conner, Alec Franklin, Jett Franklin, Parrish L. Franklin, and Charlotte R. Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Ida Collins Hendrix and Charlie W. Hendrix, and Ben F. Sapp and Bessie H. Sapp; and her sister, June P. Earnhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Candler County Historical Society, P.O. Box 325, Metter, GA 30439. Please include Constance H. Franklin’s name on the memo line.

Her laughter, her stories, and her love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Serving as pallbearers will be David G. Moyer, Glenn Hendrix, Kevin Davis, Benjamin Franklin, Hardy Franklin, and Jackson Franklin. Members of the Class of ’66 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be at Excelsior Baptist Church, 9AM - 11AM followed by the funeral and graveside service 11AM - 12:30PM. Lunch following the service will be at the church fellowship hall.
