Joann “Jojo” Deal, 53, of Metter, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Metter on August 2, 1973, to Jessie and Patril Tyler.
Joann was a beautiful soul whose life was marked by her deep love for others. She was passionate about caring for the people around her and making sure every friend and family member felt loved. Her biggest joy in life was serving her family, and she had a special gift for showing her love through cooking and baking for those closest to her. Her home and her heart were always open to the people she loved, and she had a heart like no other.
She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia. Her faith remained steadfast through life’s trials and throughout her recent illness. Even in difficult seasons, her faith was a constant source of strength.
Joann was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Tyler, and her parents-in-law, Curtis and Caroline Deal.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 32 years, Chris Deal; her son, Tyler Deal (Dakota); her daughter, Christan Espinoza (Logan); and her beloved granddaughter, who is eagerly anticipated in March. She is also survived by her mother, Patril Tyler; her siblings, Allen Tyler (Sherry) and Debra Hicks (Blake); and numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
Joann’s love for her family and friends was evident in the way she cared for others, gave of herself, and made those around her feel special. Her legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by the many lives she touched.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, GA. The funeral service will follow at 12:00PM with Elder John Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Matt Hodges, Josh Kennon, Ben Parker, Jackson Brown, James Dixon, and Dylan Slater. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the employees of Tyler Granite Company. Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Foundations Resource Center in Joann’s memory.
