Mr. Larry O'Neil Bonnette 83 of Metter passed away peacefully Sunday morning, September 6, 2026, at Memorial Health University; with his loving family at his bedside.

Mr. Larry graduated from Portal High School and went on to Graduate from Augusta Business School and was very proud of this accomplishment. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad; he was also a crop adjuster with The Federal Government and worked diligently with the Boll Weevil eradication program. Before his health failed him, he was also a security guard for Agri supply. He also proudly served his counter in the national guard.

Mr. Larry's favorite title was Papa. He loved hunting and fishing, if the fish was big enough to bite, it was big enough to keep. He was a fish fry master and supervisor. A member of Portal Hunting Club for many years. He loved tinkering with his tractor and always had a job for you to help with, he loved piddling; and never let anyone do anything for him for free. He was the busiest retired man you'll ever meet; he never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone.

Mr. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Gardner and Mrs. Grace Strange Bonnette, and siblings Sam, Sarah, Gerald and Ralph.

He is survived by his brother Mike (Trish) Bonnett; son, Ben (Renee) Bonnette, daughter, Lori (Jeff) Deal, son, Rodger Bonnette; his former spouse and dear friend, Hughette Bonnette. Surviving grandchildren: Hunter (Hannah) Durden (great grandson, Waylon), Anniston Bonnette (Rainey), Brian Deal (Mary), Heather Jacobs (great grandchildren: Caden, Ella, Bryce, Axel), Kasey Lamb (great grandchildren: Chestlee and Emberlie), Rusty Crawford (great grandchildren: Maebree, Anthony, Matthew, Jaycee) and his partner in crime, Lucky the cat.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday September 10, 2026, beginning at 2 pm in the Chapel of Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends, beginning at1 pm until the service hour.
