She was born on February 29, 1940, in Darien, Georgia, to the late Robert James Steele and Helen Rotha Barnard Steele. Shirley was a proud graduate of Metter High School, Class of 1959.

Shirley will be remembered for her strong work ethic and the way she lived her life—with faith, love, strength, and kindness. She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed riding her motorcycle.
