Wayne Culbertson (90 yrs old) of Metter, Georgia peacefully passed away on October 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Wayne was born on May 29, 1936, in Iola, Kansas to Floyd and Pearl Culbertson.

The day after Wayne graduated from Iola High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. It was there that he got to travel the world…riding in airplanes, ships and submarines. He served his country 12 years. He also met the love of his life Jean Marsh Culbertson there while stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. They resided in Jacksonville and had three children…Mitchell, Jerry and Terry. In 1966, Wayne packed up his family and moved to Metter, Georgia where he made a home until he passed.

He worked for the Metter Post Office for thirty years. Here he became known as Mr. Mailman. He also joined the Statesboro National Guard Unit and served fourteen years. He was promoted to First Sergeant in later years. This was a proud achievement for him as well as his family and friends. Wayne also worked for Candler County with elections for twenty -two years. He then served as County Commissioner for one term before his wife got sick and he had to help take care of her. Wayne also ran his own upholstery shop at his house. His love for cars got him into this endeavor. He loved redoing the inside of a classic car and bringing it “back to life”.

In his spare time Wayne loved to read. play solitaire on his phone, go fishing and hunting, and spending time with family and friends.

Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Metter. He also was a member of the Metter Masonic Lodge 435.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Jean Culbertson of 66 years, parents Floyd and Pearl Culbertson, a brother Steve and three sisters Barbara, Ruby and Louise, and an infant great grandson Marcus Culbertson.

He is survived by two sons Mitchell (Darlene) and Jerry (Kathy) Culbertson, a daughter Terry Culbertson, grandchildren Brandon, Mitchell, Anessa and Josh Culbertson, seven great- grandchildren, a brother-in-law, William Marsh and several nephews and nieces.

The family of Wayne Culbertson would like to say thank you also for the love and concern given over the years within his extended families of the Tyler's, the Hicks and the Deals of Metter, Georgia.

A graveside service will be held at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 pm October 8, 2026, with Michael Carroll officiating. Family will receive friends after service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to Ogeechee Area Hospice at 200 Donehoo PO Box 531 Statesboro, Ga 30459.
