Mr. Woodrow Gordon “Woody” Champion Jr., age 62, was born on October 13, 1963, to the late Mr. Woodrow Gordon Champion Sr. and the late Mrs. Shirley Tucker Champion. On Sunday morning, September 6, 2026, Woody heard the voice of the Lord and peacefully departed this life at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Woody was a native of Portal, Georgia, where he resided for 15 years. He became a member of Williams Grove Church of God in Christ in 2011 and was later baptized on April 12, 2026. He also attended the Bulloch-Candler Service Center (High Hope) in Statesboro, Georgia, where he developed many meaningful relationships throughout the years.

Woody was preceded in death by his sister, Ms. Sherry Champion, and his forever “Man,” the late Chairman Deacon Randy Goodman Sr. He leaves to cherish his precious and fond memories to his beloved caregiver, Ms. Patricia Goodman; a special niece, Mrs. Roxi (Timmy) Santiesteban; a special aunt, Mrs. Janice (Willie) Gresham; and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

To take a walk through Woody’s life is to remember the simple things that brought him joy. Some of his favorite places to eat were Longhorn Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, and Chow Time. His all-time favorite meal was a hamburger with French fries and a Coca-Cola. Woody also enjoyed having his personal space. He loved relaxing in his room, sitting comfortably in his recliner, watching television, and looking through his magazines.

Woody also enjoyed going on outings, flying, and traveling. Some of his memorable trips included visits to Florida, Six Flags over Georgia in Atlanta, and many other places. He also had a great love for sports, especially football. Music brought him joy, and he had a special place in his heart for church. Most importantly, Woody loved the Lord. When you would think that Woody would not be paying attention, he really was. Pastor Thomas made it known that Woody was one of his best members!

Woody shared a special bond with the staff and his peers at the Bulloch-Candler Service Center (High Hope). Together, they created many wonderful memories while enjoying outings to places such as Tybee Island, the Planetarium, the Kiwanis Fair, and many other destinations.

Woody’s life was meaningful and filled with special moments, meaningful relationships, laughter, travel, and the things he loved most. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, caregivers, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
