Debra Carol Mikell Dowd, Metter, Georgia joined her heavenly Father Thursday March 29, 2018 while resting at Ogeechee Area Hospice located in Statesboro, Georgia. Debra was 55 years old. She was born to Raymond and Annie Lee Westberry Mikell on July 9, 1962 in Metter, Georgia. She graduated Metter High School with the class of 1981. Debra was a life long member of Metter Church of God and loved her church family and her Lord. Debra was predeceased by the love of her life Hilton “Shot” Dowd. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brothers Jimmy, Jack, and Johnny Mikell and her sister Elaine Mikell Owens. She is survived by her sister Ellen Taylor of Texas, her brother in law Earl Dowd (Patty) and sister in law Valda Prince, her Aunt Cora Mae Mikell, cousin Danny (Linda) Mikell. Debra had no children of her own but was central in the upbringing of her many nieces and nephews. They are Deeann & Mikell Taylor, Angel O Durrence (Alec), Joseph Owens, Tony Mikell (Susan), Veronica M Mosley (William). Trudie Dowd Quick, Russ Dowd, Cinnamon Dowd, Opal and April Mikell.
She had several careers in her lifetime with a very dependable work ethic. As a child and young adult, she learned to farm and work in the fields with her family. She began her young adult career in early childhood education. She worked in the local garment factory. She then sought further education to become an accountant. She enjoyed this career for many years taking special care of the many accounting and income tax clients she served.
Debra and her late husband Shot loved to travel to Bluegrass Festivals and anything to do with John Deere. They were members of Rusty Relics Tractor Club and went to many tractor pulls and farm festivals.
Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Rusty Relics Tractor Club.
Her visitation services will be Sunday April 1, 2018, Easter, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Wood Funeral Home, Metter, GA
Her funeral services will be Monday April 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Metter Church of God.
Graveside services will be at Lake Church Cemetery.
