Obituary

Helen Hartley Martin passed away peacefully March 23, 2023, at the age of 99. She was a resident of Cameron Hall Assisted Living, Canton Georgia. Helen was born in Metter, September 27, 1923, and was the oldest of two daughters. Her parents were Julius Jefferson and Blanche Hartley of Metter. She is preceded in death by her husband Ted Martin Sr., son Ted Martin Jr., and sister Julene Mitchell.

 

Upon graduation from Metter High School, Helen moved to Savannah and to help with the war effort began a career at Hunter Army Airbase where she met and married her husband of 53 years, Theodore (Ted) Martin. From Savannah, they moved their family to Minneapolis and after raising three children, returned south and settled in Sparta Georgia. Helen enjoyed sewing, antiques, history and a good cup of coffee.

 

She will be missed by loving family, daughter Sharon (Ronnie) Burkett of Canton, Georgia and son Alan (Jodie) of Farmington, Minnesota. Helen was blessed with grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

 

She will be laid to rest, Wednesday March 29, 2023, 1:00 pm at Lake Cemetery following a Graveside Service, near her childhood home. Wood Funeral Home of Metter is in charge of arrangements.
