Mr. James Norland Humphrey, 84, of Metter died on Sept. 28, 2018 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. He was a retired Navy Chief with 24 years service, having served in Vietnam, Korea, Spain and Panama.He was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and a deacon at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Twin City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Snavely Humphrey, his parents Henry and Floreace Humphrey. two brothers, Robert Paul Humphrey and Radford Louis (Bernice) Humphrey. He is survived by a son, James Herbert “Jimmy” Humphrey ( Jackie) of Metter. Daughters, Mary (Jerry) McLean of Metter, Patsy Frawley of Reidsville and Janice Akins Hitchock of Guyton.Sister in law, Frances Humphrey of Statesboro.. Six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30,2018, 3pm. at Cedar Street Baptist Church with Rev. Will Jackson officiating.
Mr. Humphrey will lie in state from 2pm. until the hour of the service.Burial with military honors will be held in Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery
Pallbearers will be, Carl Stone, Josh Humphrey, Thomas Bowen, Johnny Brown, Robbie Humphrey, Rafael Santamaria and Paul Akins. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8pm. at Wood Funeral Home.
