John (Jack) Newton Jr. Obituary

Mr. John (Jack) Tom Newton Jr., 84, of Millen passed away peacefully August 12, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, in Statesboro, after a brief illness. He was born on April 4, 1940, to Mr. John Tom Sr. and Mrs. Tommie Aaron Newton in Jenkins County. He was a deacon of Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson Joshua Thomas Newton. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Margaret Lanier Newton, two sons John T. Newton III (Teresa), of Quitman, Ga. and Joseph R. Newton, of Millen. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Wesley Newton (Marilyn), Nicollette Hendley (Josh), Austin Newton (Madison), Peyton Newton and five great grandchildren.

In his early years, Jack worked at and held a partnership at Parker Motor Company for many years, and also serving as a member of the Jenkins County Rescue Squad. Later he started Newton Refrigeration where he was still actively working. For many years Jack also farmed and raised livestock. In his later years Jack loved fishing and spending time with his dog.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday August 15, 2024, at 11 am., at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Craig Lanier, Sam Bowen and Paul Tuten officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny McGowan, Randy McGowan, Morgan Trapnell, Austin Newton, Wesley Newton and Josh Hendley.
