Myra Henrietta Sanders Fordham, born in Candler County on July 26, 1942, was named for both her parents: Myron Dreher Sanders and Henrietta Elizabeth Sanders. She was the tenth of a flock of ten siblings. Myra died on November 18, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah from complications of cardiac surgery. She was the widow of Wayne Edward Fordham, who died on January 28, 2014. Myra was a member of First Baptist Church of Metter.
Married when they were still in high school, Myra and Wayne had significant accomplishments during periods in Savannah and Tampa. They returned to Metter in 1977. At heart, both were entrepreneurs who engaged in numerous small businesses in their hometown that included sporting goods and music, jewelry and women’s clothing, bookkeeping and tax preparation, pawn shops and antiques. Myra was also active in her community and served on the Metter City Counsel and as Candler County Magistrate Court Judge as well as many community boards. Most recently she enjoyed her work as a poll worker.
Myra and Wayne sealed their legacy in their deep and abiding family relationships. They were the proud parents of three children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Because of the special bonds with these three generations, the family has decided to acknowledge each of them by name:
Children: Victor Wayne Fordham; Tami Fordham Lindsay (Donald) and Michelle Fordham Holloway (Jerry).
Grandchildren: Victor Fordham, Jr. (Hanah); Emily Fordham Behrendsen (David); Matthew Fordham (Sarah Cate); Aaron Fordham; Amelia Fordham; Joseph A. Sikes (Cecily); Haley Dopson (T.J.); Trey Lindsay ; Kurt Lindsay; Michael (Leigh Anna); Eli Holloway.
Great-Grandchildren: Landon Myers, Aidan Myers, and Ian Behrendsen; Matthew and Blaine Fordham; Colin and Gavin Sikes; Skyler Bostick, Dylon and Braylon Dopson; Olivia Holloway.
Myra was also beloved by a large network of friends and her surviving sister, Colleen Sanders. Brothers-in-law Jerry Fordham (Ann) and Stan Fordham (Dianne) , Countless devoted nieces, nephews and cousins in four generations also survive her.
