Thomas Bishop Obituary

Thomas Bryant Bishop, “Papa Bryant”, 74, passed away May 30th, 2025, surrounded by his family while receiving care at Grace Gardens, in Metter, GA. Under the care of Community Hospice (Vidalia, GA.) He was born October 16th, 1950, in Metter, GA. to Thomas Clyde Bishop, Jr. and Thelma Bishop. He was a lifelong resident of Candler County.

Bryant was a high school graduate of Emanuel Co. Institute, class of 1967. Upon graduation, he attended Swainsboro Technical College, where he received his degree in drafting.

Bryant was an avid member of the Statesboro Church of Christ, where he led singing for many years. His strong faith was a cornerstone of his life. Bryant was a devoted husband, father, Papa, and friend. Bryant worked for Wallace Computer Company for 23 yrs. and retired, but shortly after that, he begins working with Candler County Road Department, as a motor grader operator, and finally decided to retire completely in 2015. Bryant was quiet the fisherman. Bryant loved fly fishing in North, Ga., and N.C. He loved to fish in a river, and his ponds on his property, as well. He loved watching videos on his tablet and reading books on fishing, old vehicle and tractor restorations, trains, and history. Bryant was an outdoorsman and had a love for bird shoots. His farmland was eventually planted for bird shoots, specifically. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bryant and his daughter, Megan shared a hobby of restoring his 1952 Blue Ford pickup. Bryant loved to cut grass on his riding lawnmower (Maybe a little too much), taking his time and always making sure his yard was immaculate. He was a dog lover, and had many dogs over the years, but he truly loved his most recent dog, Maisy! She and Bryant were two peas in a pod. Maisy crossed the rainbow bridge however, before Bryant went to live at Grace Gardens.

Bryant is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Clyde Bishop, Jr. and Thelma Bryant Bishop, son-in -law, Mitchell Wright Henry, and late wife, Linda Anderson (Vidalia, GA). First cousin, Dale Butler (Statesboro, GA.)

He is survived by his daughters, Heather Henry and Megan Johnson (Jeremy). Grandchildren, Leah Cruz (Julio), Ben Henry, and Collin Johnson. Great grandchild, Abram Cruz. Bryant was an only child. His first cousins were like his brothers and sisters, Bill Bishop (Atlanta, GA), Pam Levy (Atlanta, GA), and Steve Bishop (Savannah, GA).
